So, this is technically mine as DA says it's ok to trace and call it your own especially if it is someone's hard worked fan art. I don't have to give credit to *HolliGenet because I only traced *HolliGenet's work as a reference. It's not like I saved her image and simply re-uploaded it. I drew it all by myself... with the help of *HolliGenet's reference. I'm a learning artist, so I should be allowed to trace *HolliGenet's hard work and pass it off as my own, especially since it's fanart.
Tracing is ok because it helps an artist learn (how to cheat other artists and become popular).

I believe people can trace for learning until they should start to feel comfortable enough to start drawing on their own. An artist should not feel that they can trace as long as they want. The artist will never learn if they just trace. I don't believe they should post it and claim it as their own or just simply posting it at all. It should be purely for the artist as a tool.
Also, tracing only helps so much.

I had permission to trace and trash my good friend *HolliGenet's most popular deviation (which is unfortunately fan art; we both DO NOT get enough appreciation for original artwork).

hell, the reason why this is probably getting so many views is simply because it's naruto. also makes you think how many people would actually read the description. :\

but yeah, tracing's a sad deal. me, even when i drew like crap, i NEVER traced. the only thing i did that was even close to tracing was copying it with the ref like half a foot from my piece of paper. didn't have a grid because i didn't realize the usefulness of it, but i looked at the drawing, drew a little bit, looked, drew, rinse wash repeat.

people who are learning, okay fine, but people like vampirella87 *she finally left WHOO!*, and others who THE ONLY FUDGEING THING THEY DO IS TRACING, is annoying as fudgemonkey.

always nice to see a commentary on tracing.

not much of a fan of Naruto, but i think i'll check out holligenet's stuff. X3

I'm ok with the fact it's getting lots of views even if it is Naruto, but I am extremely pleased with the fact it only has two favs. One the original artist and the other, my friend and one of my roommates (who also faved the other).

I doubt many read descriptions, but people can be lazy. I'll admit I can be one of them sometimes. lol

I think they are more relaxed with fan art, but what isn't fan art really? Nothing is truely original anymore.

eh, way i figure it is that fan art is something that the person drew on their own. starting with an outline, or just starting with eyes, drawing from there. Any drawing that someone does, even if it's nowhere near the best, is still thousands of times better than a trace to me.
